“We are all Graz”
Everyone living in Graz should be able to live their lives without exclusion and discrimination and fully develop their potential. They should have the opportunity for comprehensive social participation in this city. Graz has always thrived on its diversity, shaped by immigration from near and far. Different experiences, lifestyles, and languages, as well as new perspectives and knowledge, make up the attitude to life in our growing city.
“Graz should be a good home for everyone living here. The new mission statement of the Integration Department and our work program create good conditions for this. With respect and goodwill, we can embrace diversity and master challenges,” says Integration Councillor Robert Krotzer (KPÖ) with conviction.
The new integration concept “We are all Graz” forms the basis of future integration work in our city. It was created in a two-and-a-half-year participatory development process involving experts from practice, science, administration, and representatives of self-organized migrant associations, NGOs, and committees. The population of Graz was able to participate through an online survey. Over 1,600 Graz residents, with and without a migration history, made use of this opportunity.
Based on these principles, four premises were developed:
- Historical Migration Awareness
- Human Rights City of Graz
- Appreciation of Cultural and Religious Diversity
- Sustainable Development
The city of Graz is focusing on the following levers of integration work:
- Awareness and Prevention
- Enabling Participation
- Promoting Participation
- Partnership-Based Cooperation
- Responding to Current Challenges
The integration mission statement was adopted by the Graz City Council in April 2023 and forms the basis for the work program of the Integration Department.
