Event for International Women’s Day
On March 7, 2025, the Migrant Advisory Board held an event at the Seddwell Center in Graz to mark International Women’s Day. Under the title “Self-Determination and Political Participation,” numerous participants gathered to discuss and reflect on the role and significance of these topics.
Chairwoman Irina Karamarković welcomed everyone on behalf of the board and reminded them of the importance of self-determination and political participation in securing the rights and freedoms of women.
The experiment conducted by moderator Senida Alibegović highlighted privileges, structural hurdles, and the lack of voting rights. Participants were encouraged to think about and become aware of their own privileges and hurdles.
Following this, Lisa Rücker (Alliance 0803) spoke about various ways of participation. She presented different ways in which migrants can actively contribute to society and raise their voices. Her lecture provided valuable insights and practical tips for promoting political and social participation. She also emphasized the importance of protecting and promoting the rights and freedoms of women.
A special focus was on the political participation of migrants without voting rights, with the Migrant Advisory Board being presented as a model. Irina Karamarković and board members Endah Ebner, Sara Crockett, and Galyna Skotnik provided insights into their work on the Migrant Advisory Board, their motivation to get involved, and information about the upcoming board elections in 2026.
Rachel Fox spoke on behalf of BASE Graz about the EU project EMV-LII, which aims to strengthen the integration and participation of migrants in Europe.
At the end of the event, the Migrant Advisory Board invited everyone to an intercultural buffet, where guests had the opportunity to continue exchanging ideas and making new contacts in a relaxed atmosphere.
The event was held in cooperation with the EU project EMV-LII, the Seddwell Center, and Alliance 0803 as part of the 30th anniversary of the Migrant Advisory Board.
